About the client
Zakład Wodociągów i Kanalizacji w Andrychowie (ZWiK, Water Supply and Sewerage Company in Andrychów) supplies water and manages wastewater services for the town of Andrychów and nearby areas, serving a total of 10,000 customers.
Business challenge
To continuously improve water quality and efficiency in network management, the company has been investing in technological solutions for years.
The innovations include a biomonitoring system capable of detecting over 30 types of toxins and the PallAria ultrafiltration system, which has significantly improved water quality for residents and local businesses.
The next step was to enhance the reliability and efficiency of network management. The company aimed to reduce water losses and respond faster to failures. To achieve this, they implemented SmartFlow – a platform enabling precise, real-time monitoring of the water and sewerage network.
SmartFlow implementation in Andrychów
Before the project began, ZWiK had already divided their network into zones, measuring flow and detecting leaks. The only change required was replacing some water meters with flow meters.
Future Processing offered a much more professional solution, allowing us to make use of our existing infrastructure.
SmartFlow and the existing infrastructure
- Used the existing District Metered Areas (DMA) zones with a water meter in each zone
- Balanced the zones using the International Water Association’s (IWA) methodologies
- Installed flow meters to acquire the necessary data

At the final implementation stage, the difference is clear – the platform is intuitive to use, and we have no issues with it. All the assumptions we made before the implementation proved to be correct. [...] SmartFlow has proven so valuable to us that we decided to continue the cooperation.
SmartFlow enables ZWiK to detect even minor irregularities in water usage, conduct loss analysis, and maintain constant network oversight.
Key functionalities include:
- Minimum Night Flow (MNF) analysis – Accurate, real-time data allows swift detection of unusual consumption patterns
- Advanced water loss analysis – detailed information is sent from flow and water meters to computer systems, enabling effective identification of areas that require attention. Thanks to constantly updated data, the analysis can be carried out on an ongoing basis.
- Daily water consumption measurements allow for quick identification of unusual patterns and prevention of possible water loss.
Tangible results
The introduction of SmartFlow significantly sped up fault detection, saving water, employee time, and energy costs. In zones where long-term, hidden failures were identified, water usage dropped by as much as 80%
25%

SmartFlow helped us detect the fault fast, pinpoint the affected zone, and take immediate action. There’s no guesswork – we get a precise location and we’re ready to act.
